A thing Effy's mum once said stuck in my head when I was drawing this. "She has so much love in her heart. But the thought of letting it out, showing her cards, scares her to death." And I couldn't stop thinking about it because despite her fear of being hurt she loves again and again, Freddie, Naomi, Cook, Panda, her brother and her parents, and in the end they all break her heart, in one way or another.
"The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You've just got to find the ones worth suffering for."
